The word marketing is banded about all the time. You turn on programmes on tv and they are interupted by advertisements. The payer of the advertisement fee will have started the process with the advetising agency with the express purpose of marketing, his product range and his company service portfolio. Whether by tv advertising, or a boxed item in the local or a trade paper; maybe a feature on a facebook page, every time a business or service is featured, that is by definition marketing. Someone has gone to the trouble of putting the company logo out there and words describing what’s available and who’s going to supply it. Even if we’re talking about a local dog team in competitions, every time they feature themselves on a social media platform, it is marketing what they do and in most cases they will attract more followers who then buy into the club or association. Big companies of course spend billions on marketing – globally there are so many advertising agencies as it is critical to get their products and services out there in the front of our buying minds before we think of going to their competitor!
